Abstract
The Van de Graaff accelerator LECH is a completely home made machine. It was put in operation in 1961. Since its putting into operation the accelerator have passed several improvements and modifications. At present its main data are given in table I. Now the reconstruction of the accelerator is carried out. It involves reconstruction or replacement of the following units : the supporting insulating column, the high-voltage terminal, the accelerating tube, the charging belt drive mechanism, the ion source and the power supply system. As a result the acceleration voltage should increase to about 4.5 MV and the characteristic of the ion beam and energy stability should improve. The Van de Graaff accelerator LECH is mainly used for the basic research in nuclear physics and for application of nuclear research methods in other fields of physics and technology.
